Muddy Britches Primitives

Monday, September 15, 2014

Well, I'm obviously not good at blogging. We have had a lot of stuff happening. I had total knee replacement on my right knee September 2013. All was good and I was about to be released from physical therapy when it became infected. Early Thanksgiving morning 2013, I told my husband that I couldn't get warm no matter what I did. I was shivering so bad that he couldn't sleep. There was a tiny red ring around my ankle and it began to spread. We went to the hospital at 7 am and they rushed me back and started an IV with antibiotics immediately. I will not go into full gory detail, but I had Sepsis and developed severe Cellulitis which made it extremely painful to walk. They did a clean out surgery on Saturday and sent me home with a PICC Line after seven days. I was on Vancomycin and Rifampin for twelve weeks. That stuff was a evil necessity as it makes you very sick.
I had to have extensive physical therapy, but I still was not able to bend it very well. Soooo... I went in the hospital again January 2014 for a manipulation where they put you to sleep and bend it as far as they can. After that, physical therapy went slow, but well. It took so long, but in July 2014, I began to improve by leaps and bounds. I had lost seventy pounds and started to be able to eat again. My limp is almost gone and I can tell that I am still improving. I'm so thankful to God, those faithful friends who prayed for me, my husband who took such great care of me, my wonderful doctors.. Dr. Bauer and Dr. de Araujo and Goldsboro Physical Therapy. I can't not mention my wound care Dr too.. Dr. Lintzeris who caught a serious complication very quickly and went out of his way to make sure I was taken care of.
Anyway, people ask me would I do it again. Now that I am pain free and out of danger.. yes, but I wouldn't want it to get infected again for sure! I am going to have to have the left one done some day but I am going to hold off as long as I can! For now, I'm thankful to be walking. I'm thankful for every single day because it could have went much differently!
I have recently started sewing again. I'm almost in full swing and will be posting some of my offerings very soon!
